MY FATE By Rejoice Igbinovia Aluyi (Chapter 3)

 

..... Grandma was my everything,my parents didn't cared nor loved me as much as she did,I was very glad and grateful to have her around...

When my parents refused to sponsor my education,I was home for months,while my mates had resumed classes,it made me very sad,I was always unhappy, grandma couldn't single handedly take care of my education,she wasn't working,her children were the ones taking car of her,she was also a herbal nurse,she takes care of pregnant women,and treat certain diseases using the herbal method....

But granny wasn't happy too that I was staying at home doing nothing, although I assist her with some of her patients,but she wanted me to live my own life.....

My child,I am very proud of you,of all my children and grandchildren,it's only you that had taken delight in this my handiwork,I am happy you can now take care of patients,this family heritage of ours would not die with me after all,even if you wouldn't want to get involved full time,you can help those around you if needs be.....

But then,I know you may have passion for other things since education doesn't seems to be working,,,you know if I would be able to sponsor your education single handedly,I would have gladly done thattttttt ........

Iye,I know,you do practically everything for me,it's because of you my life has a meaning,I am grateful already,and I wouldn't want you thinking too much because of me, I'd be fine,I had politely interrupted her....

Oh my child,you have a golden and a rear kind of heart,may your path be Forever favoured....

Ivie,with all said,I would like you to get an handiwork, something that you would do,so you could be leaving the house and returning in the evening,i wouldn't want you telling others go come and welcome everyday,,,so my dear,think of what you can do and let iye know,she said...

Okay iye,thank you very much,I had said...I thought so much on what I would love to do,I loved science,and I was going for Nursing,since I couldn't go to the university,I decided to become an auxiliary nurse,more over I had loved and learnt to save lives, pregnant women or any sick person from iye....

So after thinking through I decided to inform iye.

iye,I have thought about it,I would like to register as an auxiliary nurse in any good hospital around,,you see I have always loved taking care of sick persons,I have see how you put passion in helping those women who visit you,and the joy on your face when they deliver  their babies,I would want to have Knowledge in nursing,as I already did in the herbal sector from you,i had said..

My child you are so full of wisdom,,, that's very nice of you,she said,I shall speak to my friend Mrs Aghatise, she's friends with the owner of Good health hospital,that very big and reputable hospital,so you could work there,she said....woowww that hospital is one of the best in this state.oh iye, thank you very much,I replied happily....

About two weeks after the discussion,iye came to me with the happy news that she was able to reach the director of the hospital ,and has told her that Auxiliary nursing exams was just around the corner,I should get ready..iye had bought the form already.i was very happy,I jumped for joy ...

I prepared for the exam with everything in me,I didn't want iye's effort to be in vein.... Thankfully I wrote the exam and did well,and was admitted as an auxiliary nurse...

Iye was the one in charge of the  bills,from start to finish.she bought me the uniform and every other thing I'd need....

I resumed the next year,I was already 22,it was a three year program,I was in my last year at 24,iye didn't like my uniform,I had told her not to bother that I was graduating soon,but she insisted I must change it,,,my granny just have a way of making me feel special,she wasn't financially okay at that time,and she had been falling sick, making her unable to attend to patients,so I didn't want to bother her with money for my pads, transport and what have you,that's why I had visited my parents,which of course had no positive result.

Talking about my relationship life,I hadn't really had a relationship,the only one I was,I left in less than 2months,I saw that we weren't heading same direction,he had no plans,neither was he focused,he was fully dependant on his brother abroad,he didn't want to work nor do anything with his life,all he does is sleep,wake eat and sleep again,unless of course he was going to a party,,,he was an addicted smoker,he drinks wasn't even a problem,but the fact that untill he's drunk he wouldn't stop drinking,,,so I saw that we were world's apart, and kindly walked out of the relationship......and since then,I hadn't gotten into any,I was just concentrating on my job...

Thankfully, I had completed my auxillary nursing program,all thanks to my one in a million grandma,I made sure I did well,I was loved by most of the qualified nurses, doctors and other workers,they said I was kind,easy going and beautiful.

After our graduation, surprisingly for me,the management retained me,they said they were proud to call me thier student,I was smart and had learnt so much,the also encouraged me not to limit myself to just been an auxiliary nurse but try and get certified.i was so happy,even though I was yet to be a certified nurse,I was close to my dreams,I was already worried about what i'd  been doing with my life after the program...

Grandma was very happy when I told her the news,she sang songs of praises and danced beautifully.......

The next Monday,I had resumed,I was on a #30,000 salary for a start...

I took my duties seriously,I was working hand in hand with the qualifed nurses,I assist them in the labour room,and in taking care of the new babies and thier mother...

I had learnt alot from iye,how she nurses the women and babies after birth,hence it wasn't difficult in giving our patients and their babies maximum satisfaction.soon I had become the favorite of most patients,some specifically request that I take care of them...

Unfortunately,this love didn't go down well with everyone,, especially Nurse Stella, she felt it was an insult on her and the other qualified nurses,that I am perceived to be better than them,,,I didn't know how to handle her,she was my senior both by age, qualifications and experience.....

On one faithful day,a lady was to be given injection,Nurse Stella was to administer the injection,but the woman refused,she said she didn't want her to,no nurse Stella please,I want nurse Ivie to administer the injection,the last time you did, i couldn't sit for one week,please my darling,the woman had politely said...

Madam,it seems you are not ready to be given this injection,the doctor asked me to,not Ivie,Nurse Stella had said,okay okay,I shall see the doctor myself,the woman said and went to the doctor's office....

Soon she was back with the doctor,,Nurse Stella,give Nurse Ivie the injection to administer to this woman,he said and went to his office.

She gave me the injection with anger written all over her.....
