BENUE STATE HIGH COURT FIXES DATE FOR HEARING OF SUIT FILED BY STUDENTS AGAINST COE, KATSINA-ALA AND UNIVERSITY OF CALABAR

The Benue State High Court Of Justice, Holden At Adikpo Has Fixed The 11th Day Of October, 2021 For The Hearing Of A Suit Filed By Some Students Of The College Of Education, Katsina-ala ( In Affiliation With The University Of Calabar).

Sued as the 1st, 2nd and 3rd Defendants in the suit are the Provost, College of Education, Katsina-Ala and the University of Calabar, respectively.

Recall that on the 29/6/ 2021,  some aggrieved students of the Defendants originated a suit against them contending, inter alia, that having fully paid up the prescribed tuition fees, registered the prescribed courses, sat for and taken all the prescribed examinations they, the Plaintiffs, were entitled in law to know the outcome/results of those examinations as well their  general academic records kept by the Defendants.

The Plaintiffs are aggrieved that throughout their four years of studies at the institution maintained by the Defendants, they, alongside all their coursemates/schoolmates, were denied access to their academic records and results of all examinations taken by them as the Defendants have failed, refused and/or neglected to disclose same to them even after repeated demands.

Worst still, that even after their "graduation" sometime in  2020, the Defendants have still kept them incommunicado about the fate of their academic records as  their examinations results have neither been declared nor published by the Defendants till date.

Ergo, the Plaintiffs, having exhausted all internal avenues for amicable settlement, took to Court seeking sundry reliefs to be availed their academic records and certificates in order to pursue their dreams and also be compensated in damages for the delay and trauma the Defendants subjected them to, during all the years their academic records were kept in limbo.
