In an attempt to minimize young unemployment in Ebonyi State, Southeast Nigeria, Senator Obinna Ogba, who represents the Ebonyi central senatorial zone in the National Assembly, has provided vocational training to over a hundred of his constituents.
The senator funded the exercise, which took place in Abakaliki, the state capital, in partnership with an institution called Projects Development Institute (PRODA).
Senator Ogba stated during the flag-off event that the training has become necessary in order to minimize young joblessness restiveness, which leads to a rise in insecurity.
The senator, who was represented at the ceremony by his Special Assistant on Media, Mr. Godfrey Chikwere, stated that the participants will be adequately prepared to stay helpful beyond the session.
"As the name implies, the purpose of the program, skill acquisition, is simply to empower individuals." It will be a semi-skills empowerment program ranging from apparel design to tailoring."
"We will also teach individuals in the manufacture of various things, such as detergent, bleach, liquid soap, air freshener, and bead making, among others, so that they may remain competitive in the labor market."
"Those who are taught in fashion design will be given industrial machinery as well as conventional sewing machines, while those who are trained in home products will be given chemicals, cash, and all other necessary equipment."
"The initiative is entirely aimed at reducing unemployment in society, and it spans all of Ebonyi Central Zone's component council regions." He stated.
He said that following the training, the beneficiaries will be given financial support to help them establish their businesses.
"The program's organizers are extremely cautious."
