We had joy
Sprouting as seed
Parading hood unclad
While hunting birds and rats
We had joy
Soothed under moon
To ear tales from gray feet
That now reside in their six feet
We had joy
Bundling in the square
Beguiled by hide and seek
At the feet of thousand shining stars
We had joy
Convoying to rivers
Buzzing with our mouths
And swimming till the sunset
The joy then
Just like a raider
Was raided by the whites
By ways allotrious to us the blacks
