Gelson Dala showed class as he was instrumental in Angola's victory against Namibia. The Al Wakara forward scores twice and assisted the third as his team cruise into the last eight on the night.
The game which began with an early scare for the Angolans saw their goalkeeper, Neblu saw red in the opening seventeen minute. Neblu judged wrongly and made an ugly tackle on his opponent which saw the referee bidding him farewell with a straight red.
With Angola been reduced to ten men, they played with caution for a minute before establishing dominance in the 38th minute as Gelson Dala poked home from close range to change the scoreline.
Two minutes after conceding, Namibia's Lubeni Haukongo saw red after been booked for a second bookable offence after a petty foul which his manager would not be pleased with.
Four minutes after the Brave Warriors were reduced to ten men, Gelson Dala got his brace. The forward peels off his marker and headed straight into the top left corner from the edge of the box after a sublime free kick from Fredy. The Black Sable Antelopes went into the break.
After the two-nil unsettled first 45 minutes, it was no surprise to see things calm down early in the second half, with the Angolans sitting back in an attempt to protect their lead. The Black Sable Antelopes even at that still looked dangerous on the breaks though, which is exactly how they found their third goal. Breaking in behind a stretched Namibian defence, Mabululu curled home a stylish right-footed effort midway after been set up by Gelson Dala through the second half to confirm the win for Angola.
It was an impressive night for Angola, whose last eight appearance at AFCON came when they were host nation back in 2010, with Gonçalves now looking to go at least one step further this time around. As for Namibia, their first-ever AFCON knockout fixture ends in disappointment, and the Brave Warriors will look back on the early red card to goalkeeper Neblú as a missed opportunity.
Angola will now await the winner between Nigeria and Cameron to set up a quarter final date.
